NEOS_vltra: 12 Artists for Sicily — A Landscape Transformed into Art

Roberto Riccio’s visionary independent art and botanical project, NEOS_vltra, opens to the public on October 10, 2026, in Vittoria, with its inaugural exhibition, Beyond the Wall / Oltre il muro.

Financed entirely by Riccio—following over twenty years dedicated to founding and leading Galileo Global Education Italia—NEOS_VLTRA is a deeply personal endeavor. Riccio chose to give something back to the Hyblaean land that welcomed and inspired him over the last seven years, creating an open-air sanctuary where contemporary art, botany, and spirituality merge.

Villa Yulia and the Iblean Landscape

At the heart of the project is Villa Yulia, a summer residence dedicated to the memory of Riccio’s mother, surrounded by seven agricultural plots progressively acquired in Vittoria.

The exhibition Beyond the Wall / Oltre il muro revolves around an imposing brutalist concrete perimeter wall, inspired by the ancient logic of the enclosure—the wall that closes in order to create and protect an inner sacred space.

Rather than serving as a mere backdrop, the surrounding landscape—the dry-stone walls, red earth, Mediterranean light, ancient olive trees, and almond trees—becomes an active participant in the creative process. The genius loci informs every aspect of the site.

Site-Specific Land Art and Cultural Synthesis

Over 40 percent of the interventions consist of site-specific land art installations, conceived and crafted in deep harmony with the soil, vegetation, and cycles of the region.

The installations span painting, sculpture, land art, and religious art. They weave together historical narratives, local customs, and human spirituality in perfect equilibrium with Sicilian identity. Utilizing raw materials native to the territory—such as volcanic stone and local earth—national and international artists have created permanent installations that emerge directly from the enclosure, acting as a unique, permanent signature of the place.

Overcoming Challenges Toward Opening Day

The journey to opening day has been intense. Construction and artistic installation have operated under strict timelines and continuous adaptations, driven by the extreme conditions of the Sicilian summer and complex logistical challenges. These hurdles only deepened the bond between the artworks and the land that hosts them.

While some installations are putting the finishing touches on their dialogue with the space, others have assumed their final forms. Everything converges on October 10, 2026, when NEOS_VLTRA opens its gates to the public for the very first time, featuring a special surprise planned exclusively for the inauguration.

An Immersive Experience

Patroned by the Municipality of Vittoria, Beyond the Wall / Oltre il muro invites visitors into a profound contemplative immersion in nature and art. It is designed as an hour-long journey to reconnect with the essential—elevating the spirit through aesthetic form and grounding it through the vital force of native botany.

NEOS_VLTRA is not designed to fit into an existing circuit, but to carve out an autonomous space where art originates from the landscape, breathes with it, and finds its ultimate necessity in that relationship.
